Congratulations to Morgan Lira who was named to the 2009 Mercury News All-County Team in today’s paper. Lira, who was named as the team’s Runner of the Year, finished 4th in the CCS (D3) race and was the 8th fastest CCS representative at the California State Championships.

QUICK VC GOAL BRINGS FIRST WIN
San Jose, CA – The Lady Warriors continued their solid play as Santa Cruz High traveled over the hill for a non-league match on the VC Soccer Field. As they say “This match was over before it started”. Just 45 ticks after the opening whistle Cari Cronquist took a Nicole Lord pass and buried it in the back of the net for what was to be the lone score of the game. The shutout was the first win of the season for Valley. Senior captain Bri Garrison was injured on the scoring play and was sidelined midway through the first half with a high ankle sprain.

Girls Varsity Basketball Wins Pioneer HS - Glen Ventura Classic
The varsity girls basketball team sweeps Pioneer Tournament: Wed 12/2 W 56-28 vs Piedmont Hills, Thurs 12/3 W 69-49 vs Monta Vista, and beat Santa Teresa 70-38 last night to win the championship game!! Senior AJ Newton was named to the All-Tournament Team and Junior Briana Cotton received MVP of the Tournament. Briana had an impressive final game hitting 5-5 behind the arc and leading the team with 22 points (7-3-22).
