XPRIZE Water Scarcity

Valley Christian’s Water Quest team is proud to be competing in the $10.9 million Track B – Desalination: Novel Materials and Methods of the XPRIZE Water Scarcity Challenge.

Launched in Spring 2025, our project brings together a passionate, multidisciplinary team of 20 students, united under the leadership of a seasoned expert in Research & Development. Together, we are developing a sustainable and cost-effective seawater treatment solution designed to deliver potable water at scale, with an operational lifespan of over 10 years. Our goal is to pioneer breakthrough materials and methods that will help shape a future where clean water is accessible to all.

The Global Issue

Water scarcity affects 80% of the global population, and by 2030, we’ll face a 40% shortfall in water supply. Traditional desalination is too costly and harmful to scale. The $119M XPRIZE Water Scarcity competition is driving innovation in sustainable, affordable seawater desalination to unlock Earth’s oceans and ensure reliable access to clean water for all.

XPRIZE Water Scarcity - The Challenge

The XPRIZE Water Scarcity Challenge is a $119 million, five-year global competition aimed at transforming seawater desalination. It calls on innovators worldwide to develop breakthrough technologies that are sustainable, affordable, and scalable, making clean water accessible to communities most at risk. The goal is to revolutionize how we tap into Earth’s oceans to secure a reliable, year-round water supply while minimizing environmental impact and supporting global resilience in the face of climate change.
