VCHS DRESS CODE

As students begin shopping for prom attire, VCHS wants to provide clear expectations well in advance so that students and parents understand the school’s attire expectations. Attire not within the dress code will result in not being admitted to the dance.

Many dresses on the popular “Windsor” dress site do not meet the VCHS dress code standard. Please take note of the following styles as examples that will not be admitted to the VCHS dance: Ronnie Formal Satin Slit Long Dress, Celia Formal Cutout Long Dress, Cintra Mesh Tulle Bustier Gown, Arabella High Slit Cowl Neck Dress, Morgan Formal Flocked Velvet Dress, Kaleigh Off Shoulder Dress, Elisabeth Pleated Tulle Formal Dress, and Lola High Slit Satin Dress.

Being prohibited to enter a dance is highly stressful for both the student and anyone accompanying the student. Please be certain that the attire selected falls within the published dress code. If a student cannot easily and comfortably bend over/move freely while staying fully covered, then it is not appropriate for a high school dance and will not be admitted.

VCHS Dance Attire Expectations for All Attendees at ALL Dances

• Clothing must be modest while attending school events held off-campus.
• Shoes must be worn at all times during the dance. Please consider shoe choice in planning attire.
• Fashion that is considered against social norms or culturally insensitive is not allowed.
• Traditional (widely adopted) gender attire or gender-neutral attire is allowed at dances and on campus (e.g. - women in a pant-suit is considered gender-neutral attire).
• Attire must fully cover from the top of the armpits to top of the knee. Necklines should not be below the horizontal line between armpits.
• Exposed midriffs are not allowed.

Formal Dance Attire Policies (in addition to all-dance expectations listed above)

• Students are expected to dress up for formal dances.
• For women: Dresses must fully cover from the top of the armpits to the top of the knee (see back exception). The neckline should not fall below the horizontal line between the armpits. Strapless dresses are allowed if they follow all standards listed.
• The length of dresses or dress slits must stay indisputably no shorter than top of the knee at all times, so dresses with stretch material are not advised
• Sheer, see-through fabric is not considered when evaluating length
• No side or front cutouts, even with sheer fabric
• Backs must be above the waistline
• For men: Suits are usually worn to this dance rather than tuxedos, although both are allowed.
• Collared button-down shirts or turtlenecks are required
• Shirts should not be unbuttoned during the dance
• Jeans are not allowed
• No tank tops or shorts
• There are no shaving requirements at dances
