Mrs. Jana Steeves, Valley Christian Elementary School’s Librarian, contacted Valley Christian Junior High Bible teacher, Mrs. Debbie Butler, to see if her students would write letters of encouragement to our men and women serving in the Armed Forces. Mrs. Butler’s classes wrote and decorated over 90 letters, filled with prayers and encouragement. Soon afterward, a Service Award plaque was sent to VCJH for Mrs. Butler and her students, thanking them for their encouraging letters to members of the Armed Forces of the United States of America.

Oystein Baadsvik from Norway will present a tuba clinic in the Conservatory Hall on Wednesday, October 23, from 4 to 5:30pm. Admission is free, and the public is invited.

Students in Physical Science are learning to use the Periodic Table through Element Bingo! The “caller” calls out the element and a helpful fact for the students who then search the Periodic Table for the chemical symbol. For example, Strontium has an atomic number of 38. If students had “Sr” on their card, they could mark that square. Five elements in a row wins!

The 7th Annual Quest Classic - a Western Band Association field show for marching bands will be hosted by the Band Boosters at Chabot College on Saturday, October 19. 17 bands will perform. All are invited!

Valley Christian recently hosted the 9th annual WCAL Sportsmanship Summit. Eleven WCAL schools brought students, deans and activity directors to discuss various aspects of sportsmanship. The students worked diligently and are in the process of finalizing the Ten Commandments of WCAL Sportsmanship. It was delightful to see students interact with all the different schools and work together toward a common goal.

Sydney To, Valley Christian High School junior, joined 13,000 students across the country in writing a 1200-word essay analyzing Ann Rand’s novel Anthem. Sydney distinguished himself from the masses by making it to the semifinal round. His reward: a cash prize and the personal satisfaction of knowing he rose above most of the competition.

Do you like singing? Dancing? How about people in monkey costumes? The Drowsy Chaperone is a hilarious, heart-warming musical in which a die-hard musical fan plays her favorite cast album and the show literally bursts to life in her living room. Final performance dates are October 24, 25, 26 at 7:30pm and a 2pm matinee on Oct. 26.

In his first start for the San Jose State football team, Jarrod Lawson('12) had a day he will never forget, including 202 all-purpose yards and 2 touchdowns.

In a five set effort, the girls varsity volleyball team defeated Archbishop Mitty on Tuesday night.
