4th grade students learn about buoyancy principles in Hands on Science with Mrs. Galleher. Students designed and constructed 5” aluminum foil boats, then test their designs by floating them in water adding mass or pennies until they sink. Students learned about the scientific law of buoyancy, density and displacement. The goal was to make a boat that displaced enough water so that buoyant forces were created….without taking on water and becoming too dense. The final challenge was applying learned knowledge answering the question” How did Archimedes prove that King Heiro’s crown wasn’t solid gold?"
