April 28 2017, San Jose, Calif. – Valley Christian High School is pleased to announce that Gary St. Clair has been named head men’s soccer coach. Former Head Coach Mark Christie will remain as a member of the coaching staff. Coach St. Clair is a graduate of San Jose State University where he was a three time All-West Coast Goalkeeper. He was the first goalkeeper selected in the 1975 North American Soccer League draft and played for both the San Jose Earthquakes (75) and San Diego Jaws (76). Coach St. Clair earned four international caps as the starting goalkeeper for the United States Olympic Team in the 1976 Montreal games.
After retiring as a player, St Clair began his coaching career at Leland High School before moving on to West Valley College where his teams accumulated a 75-21-14 record and four conference championships. In 1990, he was hired as the head coach of the San Jose Spartans men’s soccer team where he served for 24 years before retiring in 2013. Coach St. Clair was twice named Far West Coach of the Year and holds an A license from the United States Soccer federation. Gary and his wife Beverly live in San Jose and have two children who are Valley Christian graduates Kristen (97) and Daniel (00).

Of course, Coach St. Clair’s resume speaks for itself. He is a proven leader, and we are thankful for his willingness to invest into the young people on our campus. More importantly, both coaches understand the mission of our school and are committed to furthering that mission while assisting in formation of strong character in our athletes. Mark and Gary are selfless and incredibly talented coaches who will combine to provide incredible opportunities for our students. ”
