Three High School Groups Head to Reno Jazz Festival

59 high school students in the VCHS select Jazz groups are headed to the Reno Jazz Festival to compete on Saturday, April 28.

While most of the students will board the bus on Friday afternoon, accommodations have been made for the 16 students attending Senior Prom Friday night. The will take a very early bus at 6:30am Saturday morning to Reno, and probably sleep until they arrive and prepare to perform.

Considered one of the best of its kind in the world, and lauded by the San Francisco Chronicle as “showcasing music’s future,” the Reno Jazz Festival has been hosting jazz superstars and the finest jazz students, educators and professional musicians in the nation. Since 1962, the Festival has grown considerably in size ans stature and is becoming one of the largest and finest events of its kind in the world. the Festival hosts three days of concerts, clinics and competitions on the University of Nevada, Reno campus.

With more than 350 school groups, 9,000 participants, 50 clinicians, performers, and adjudicators participating annually, the Festival strives to ensure that every guest participant leaves with greater knowledge, understanding, appreciation and love of music. It attracts some of the country’s most talented middle school, high school and college-age musicians, as thousands compete with their school bands, vocal groups and ensembles.
