Over 160 high school singers and strings/winds/brass/percussion students have begun rehearsals for Valley Christian Schools' first large ensemble, the Symphonic Chorale and Orchestra. They will travel to the YMCA Camp Jones Gulch in La Honda, CA for the weekend of September 14-16 to build community, rehearse, and have fun and great food outdoors in the beautiful local mountains. This group is open to all Valley Christian High School students who wish to participate.
The group is preparing a magnificent choral work, "Lux: The Dawn From on High," by Dan Forrest, under the direction of Dr. Mark Hulse, vocals; Lily Homer and Dr. Scott Homer, strings; and Dr. Michael Brown, winds/brass/percussion.
The final presentation of their performance will be on Friday, December 14, 2018, at the historic California Theatre, the location for the past 11 years of the VCS K-12 Christmas Concert. The Gala performance featuring the Symphonic Chorale and Orchestra will be on Friday at 8pm. Tickets will go on sale after Thanksgiving at boxoffice.vcs.net
"Students participating in this inaugural season of the Symphonic Chorale and Orchestra will expand their musical knowledge and understanding, make lasting friendships and memories, and experience the incredible power and beauty of collectively creating music, sharing the stage in performance with their friends and fellow musicians," says Troy Gunter, VP/Director, K-12 Conservatory of the Arts.
13 chaperones will accompany the students to the camp and include music faculty and staff. Stay tuned for photos!
