Conservatory Students Perform at Prestigious Venues

Sophomore Violinist and Pianist Melody Choi, Music Major, performed in Carnegie Hall
VCHS Conservatory Music Major and sophomore pianist and violinist Melody Choi was chosen as the Second Place Winner of the American Protege International Competition with both violin and piano. She performed at Carnegie Hall in June, 2018. Shortly after her performance, she went on an overseas tour with the California Youth Symphony, where she performed in venues throughout Latvia, Estonia, Finland, and Sweden as the Assistant Concertmaster. In addition, Melody was accepted into the Bowdoin International Music Festival located in Brunswick, Maine, and attended the festival this July, where she studied with violinist Itamar Zorman and was also coached by Robin Scott. Near the end of her summer, she also helped raise money for children of Rohingya by playing in a benefit with the HopeBox Charity Youth Orchestra, where she was selected to perform as one of the two soloists for a duet.
Junior Music Major Ansel Austin Performs at 2018 Monterey Jazz Festival With San Jose Jazz All Stars
Jazz Ensemble bassist and Symphonic Chorale stand-up bass player and AMSE Major Ansel Austin was invited to perform with the 2018 San Jose Jazz All Stars Combo U19 at the 61st Monterey Jazz Festival on September 22. This was an immense honor for the Conservatory Music Major.
