After a long Friday afternoon trip to Southern California, the Valley Christian Open Air Ensemble rested and prepared for their 12:30pm performance at Warren High School in Downey.
At the end of the day, they were in First Place, with a score of 73.75, their highest this season. The Warriors also took home the trophies for Best in Class Visual Performance, Best in Class Music Performance, Best in Class General Effect, Best in Class Colorguard, as well as Overall Class Champion.
Later in the afternoon, they visited the beach and had dinner in Long Beach.
VCHS OAE Director Dr. Michael Brown, in his first year directing the band, was most excited about the students' experience off the field as well.
"This weekend, our students were able to worship at Hillsong LA with Hillsong Young and Free, forge new relationships over recreational time at Huntington Beach, and represent VCS by showcasing their artistic craft with an early Saturday performance of our 2018 production, The Steps That Lead Our Way," said Dr. Brown.
"Our students have been working tirelessly since early July to perfect their telling of Rosa Park’s story, and God shined through them this weekend as they won Best in Class Visual Performance, Music Performance, General Effect, Colorguard, and Overall Class Champion against some other incredible bands from Southern California.
Our biggest win of the weekend was the decision of several students to give their life to Christ at the gathering this morning," he said
The next competition will be next weekend at Independence High School in San Jose. Come out and see the OAE! OAE will perform at 1:49pm sharp at Independence High School. Doors open to the stadium at 1pm.
Congratulations, 2018 OAE!
