Who Doesn’t Love a Nice Glass of Lemonade?
The students of Valley Christian Elementary School (VCES) have been busy learning the ins and outs of starting their own business through Lemonade Day--a nationwide program brought to VCES through our Business & Entrepreneurship Initiative.
“I was looking for a business program to implement at the elementary school, and someone passed along [Lemonade Day] to me,” BEI Vice President Hannah Kim says. “I thought it was a great way for the students to think about all of the different types of business concepts.”
Over the course of six weeks, students were responsible for everything from decorating their lemonade stands to slogans and posters, even coming up with their own original lemonade recipes.
“The kids have definitely been able to see what their gifts and talents are,” Kristin Annab, first-grade teacher and Lemonade Day instructor says. “Whether it’s amazing artistic ability creating our fliers or great brains for thinking about logos or slogans.”
Students not only learned what their gifts were but also how they could use them for a great cause, with all proceeds from the sales going to Grace Public Schools, our sister school in India. Students like Annie, a young VCES entrepreneur in the making, all agree it was a great experience and one they can’t wait to do again. “I learned that you can start a business, have fun, and help people at the same time.”
