Music Major and fifteen-year-old sophomore violinist
Melody Choi was chosen as one of twenty-four violinists across the country to participate in the National Youth Orchestra 2 (NYO2) for the summer of 2019.

Carnegie Hall’s Weill Music Institute selects the most outstanding young musicians across the country each year to form the orchestra; only a few players at most are chosen from each state. In 2019, NYO2 will be lead by conductor Carlos Miguel Prieto through a partnership with the New World Symphony. Performances at the New World Center at Miami Beach and Carnegie Hall will feature pianist Gabriela Montero performing her own Piano Concerto No. 1, “Latin”, de Falla’s The Three-Cornered Hat, and Stravinsky’s ballet Pétrouchka.
Melody was also honored to be chosen as the Principal for the California All-State High School Symphony Orchestra, which was held in February in Fresno, California.

She was also recently chosen as one of the winners of the Palo Alto Philharmonic Concerto Movement Competition. Melody will be making her orchestral debut on May 19, 2019 with the Philharmonic, playing Maurice Ravel’s brilliant concert rhapsody Tzigane. Additionally, in January, she won prizes from the DVC/HNU String Competition and the KAMSA Youth Music Competition.

Congratulations, Melody!
