VCHS students Cathy Chang ('21) and Sheryl Hsu ('22) will be one of 64 teams from around the world competing at the Diamond Challenge Summit in Delaware on April 13- 15 for a grand prize of $11,000. As semifinalists in the Diamond Challenge, they will receive free airline tickets and lodging for the Diamond Challenge Summit, as well as mentorship meetings. At the Summit, they will have networking opportunities with high schoolers and professionals from around the world, an opportunity to pitch their concept to a panel of judges, attend workshops, and hear from multiple entrepreneurs.
Their business concept is a non-profit organization named Supply Drop that aims to eradicate inefficiencies in disaster relief.
In addition to the Diamond Challenge, they also submitted their business concept to the Model Entrepreneur (ME) Competition. The pair were selected as finalists and will compete for a $1,500 scholarship and admittance to summer camps at Stanford, Harvard, Caltech, and other schools.
As first time participants, they were very surprised and excited that they advanced to this level of competitions. Cathy and Sheryl reported, "We are motivated and inspired to continue to work on this idea, not just for the competition, but to make it a reality."
