High School Spiritual Formation

Belong in Community. Be Formed in Christ. Live Your Calling.

Students can explore their faith journey on campus and in the community. We meet students where they are in their spiritual journey, praying they are formed into Christlikeness as they learn and live the way of Jesus, contribute to a culture of belonging, and are equipped to live out their calling to love others and impact the world. Our dedication to service continues throughout high school, fostering a lifelong commitment to joyful and compassionate service to others, just as Christ and the early church modeled.

Our Way of the Warrior commitment includes the following:

Weekly worship chapel and educational experiences
Spiritual Discipleship Track
Spiritual retreats
Freshman Family Night cultivates relationships with new families
Regular on-campus opportunities
Junior and senior leadership classes
Teachings on biblical unity and character formation
Service trips (IMPACT)
K-12 Biblical Unity and K-12 Wellness
Partnerships with pre-approved local nonprofits and local churches
Twenty-five hours of required community service
Yearly summer Service Week with up to twelve service options

Curriculum

Bible classes for every grade level, designed as part of our four-year Spiritual Plan, include introductory courses for students new to Christianity.

Service Opportunities - Impact Mission Trips & Outreach

Impact Mission Trips

At the heart of our mission program is a deep desire to lead students into life-changing, cross-cultural experiences where they encounter Jesus Christ and are transformed by His love. These journeys are more than trips—they are spiritual milestones that shape hearts, strengthen faith, and ignite a lifelong passion for service.

Through intentional spiritual formation, humble service, meaningful relationships, and hands-on ministry, students grow in their relationship with Christ and discover the unique gifts God has given them. They return equipped and inspired to live lives marked by love and sent with purpose—to serve others and advance His Kingdom.

Our students have the opportunity to partner with ministries around the world, including in El Salvador, Mexico, the Philippines, various parts of Africa, Chile, and beyond. Each destination offers new perspectives, deep connections, and powerful encounters with the global Church.

Outreach

In addition to 63,000 individual service hours, we host several campus-wide service projects throughout the year, including food drives, clothing drives, and fundraising for various nonprofits, including Martha’s Kitchen and CityTeam.

Students must complete 25 hours of Community Service each year, though many serve above and beyond that.

Chapel

Chapel fosters students’ spiritual growth through diverse formats, including engaging music, relevant teaching, scripture analysis, thoughtful conversations, and art. The SFO team curates an annual chapel calendar to strengthen students’ faith in Jesus, the truth of Scripture, and the value of community service. View Chapel Schedule.

Weekly chapels help students grow in their relationship with God through a time of musical worship, teaching, scripture reading, prayer, and conversations with Christian leaders in various industries.
Bi-annual Spiritual Emphasis Weeks allow students to focus on their faith.
We invite students to experience various chapel formats to help them connect their faith to everyday life
and experiences.
An optional additional chapel on Mondays at Warrior Time called Grace Line Chapel is designed for students
to dive deeper into worship and Scripture.
Students connect with our campus pastors or chaplains who pray and encourage them.

Discipleship Track

The Discipleship Track is an optional, eight-week course designed to equip students with the essentials to grow in their relationship with Jesus, led by teachers, chaplains, pastors, and students. Not only does it help students connect to a community, but it helps them explore topics such as the following:

How to read Scripture
How to find a church
Why it is essential to serve
How to share your testimony
Why worship matters

Meet the HS Pastor

Meet the HS Pastor

Marcus Martinez, VCHS Alumni (’02), came to know and love Jesus during his time as a student here. Since 2009, he has poured his life into serving VCHS students—as a teacher, former Varsity Basketball Coach, and now as Campus Pastor and Director of the Impact Missions Program.
His passion for reaching the next generation and the Bay Area with the love of Christ led him to pastoral ministry in a local church in 2020, before returning to VCHS to continue his calling. Marcus is deeply committed to making the beauty of the Way of Jesus known to the next generation and engaging in God’s Kingdom work around the world.
In addition to his role at Valley Christian, he serves in his local church and on the boards of several international ministries. He holds bachelor’s degrees in Economics and Finance from CSU Stanislaus, an MBA from National University, and a Master of Arts in Ministry and Leadership from Western Seminary.
His greatest joy is being a husband to Abra Martinez (Wellness Counselor at VCHS) and a father to their three daughters—Jayne, Emilia, and Marie.
