OVERVIEW
In our busy lives, making time to be with God and with others is a discipline. In a field that requires so much intensity, our relationships with God and with others requires even more intensity. Retreat in the middle of a busy season is never convenient, but it is necessary. Jesus created pause at inconvenient times to be with His disciples. We often don’t realize how much we need pause until after someone creates it for us. It’s one of the things I loved most about taking students up to a camp with no cell phone reception. At first, the students will object, but within the next 48-36 hours, the students open up to God and experience connections with others. This is one of the reasons why VCS creates an intentional pause in the middle of the “October crush” to create space for us as a staff to connect with God and connect with others. Our speaker this year is no stranger to the grind of education. As a public-school principal, Zac Bauermaster broke the internet with the culture he’s created on his elementary school campus with millions of views and shares. His story has been featured in People Magazine, Good Morning America, and national publications. The key to his leadership is His relationship with Jesus and the intentionality of connecting with God, Day by Day. We are excited for him to encourage us this year as we head to Mount Hermon for a time of worship, encouragement, fun, and community.
